Advanced Creative Writing is a college-preparatory curriculum designed for ambitious high school students (grades 10–12) or motivated older teens ready for serious creative challenge. This course moves far beyond basic story prompts—students will learn the architecture of complex narratives, build vivid characters, wield thematic motifs and literary devices, and guide their stories through layered arcs from conception to polished final draft.
Through a progression of expertly scaffolded lessons, engaging mentor texts, and innovative worksheets (arc mapping, ripple effect charts, scene tracking), learners will:
Craft multi-dimensional protagonists and antagonists with authentic motivations and emotional journeys.
Explore worldbuilding, magic or speculative systems, dialogue, and dynamic scene construction with professional-level tools.
Analyze acclaimed novels and discover how to model and adapt advanced techniques in their own original work.
Participate in structured peer critique, self-revision cycles, and alpha/beta reading—learning to diagnose and develop their writing with independence and critical insight.
Complete a capstone project (2,500–5,000 words) demonstrating mastery of intersecting plots, meaningful symbolism, and memorable climactic payoff.
